There are almost 100 miles of hiking trails in the Freshwater Coast Area. Difficulty ranges from an easy walk to strenuous. The trails will be located in neighborhoods like Savannah Lakes Village, National Forest Lands, and the State Parks in SC & GA. Here are some of our favorites:

Savannah Valley Rails to Trails - Located north of Huguenot Parkway in McCormick County, the SVRTT system is approximately 8 miles of hard packed, level trails. Walking, dog walking, biking, and trail running are great ways to use the trail.

Hickory Knob State Park - There are three main trails in this wonderful South Carolina state park. Best of all entry to the park is FREE. Our favorite is the 7 mile Lakeside trail that follows the shoreline of the lake. Moderate to strenuous hiking, dog walking, nature viewing, & mountain biking are best for these trails.

Elijah Clark State Park - There are several trail options in this Georgia state park. There is an entry fee for this park. Trails are moderate to strenuous and best for hiking, dog walking, & nature viewing.

Bussey Point National Scenic Area - This area is little less steep and rolling than the northern parts of the County. There is no charge to use the park. It is surrounded by the the lake and is used by hikers, horseback riders, and nature lovers. There are a few primitive campsites and plenty of areas to swim in the lake. Trails require mostly moderate exertion.

Access to the lake is easy by visiting any of the state parks or boat launch areas liberally located around the area. There is no better way to enjoy the unspoiled shorelines than by boat, kayak, or paddleboard. Below are a few places to easily and inexpensively rent your watercraft.

It is recommended that you get up and move everyday to improve your health and live better, There are many ways you can keep yourself active while in the lake area. Below are just a few:

Walking, biking, swimming, paddling, pickleball, tennis, golfing, hunting, fishing, disc golf, etc. These are all ways to stay healthy without having to go to a gym.
